This year’s artists at SÅ are Gunhild Aarebrot Kilde, Gunhild Sannes Larsen and Lina Wallinder. Kilde works with performance arts and has developed art concepts at previous SÅ festivals, with a combination of performance, dance, text, music, communion and installations. This year she has been working in collaboration with Sannes Larsen. Sannes Larsen primarily works with painting, oftentimes using watercolors combined with charcoal, and chalk drawings on canvas. The two Gunhilds have developed this year’s art concept, called “Tabula Rasa” which circles around seeking God from a sacred space with/without a clean slate. Incorporated in the concept, we will also meet the works of Lina Wallinder. Lina is an experienced artist and musician, and she played an important role in the creative part of Sub Church before she moved back to Sweden a few years ago.

As in previous years, the art project at SÅ 2016 revolves around the topic sacred space. There are many sacred rooms in our Father’s house, and the artists want to create a (sacred) room outside in nature. In this room, we can seek to move away from everything else and towards God. Art can help us move up and out, away and in. Towards God. Visual art can be an item to fix our eyes on.

The title of the art project is paradoxically Tabula Rasa, which means “blank/erased slate”. In this version, the painting hanging in nature, the slate is not blank. It is filled, but can still be experienced as blank. As a new, fresh start. As a desire to be in touch with the sacred, with God. A tabula – a kind of altarpiece.

There will also be a sacred room for words. From a sound installation, you will hear a text read out aloud. As a comment to the sacred (sletta space), or as a help to reach out to it. Words that can help you find your own words when meeting God, in the sacred space of nature.

The concept is still under development. We are excited to be part of the unveiling of this art collaboration during SÅ 2016.
